Discover the history of our family estate in Verneuil
Established in 1990, our wine estate has grown over the years thanks to our grandparents' vineyards, which are now part of the “Champagne” Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée area.
House of Champagne Cougnet-Weber
For more than a century, the family vineyards are located in the Marne Valley; the Cougnet-Weber house was born in 1990 when Sylvie and Philippe decided to make wine under their own brand. It is a production on a human scale that has two hectares mainly planted with Meunier.
By conviction, Philippe has always worked his vines in an eco-responsible way; naturally the estate is HVE and VDC certified for many years. The style of Cougnet-Weber Champagne is gourmand, fruity and powerful. Sylvie and Philippe’s wine-making choice is based on a long ageing, at least 3 years in the cellar. In addition, some of the wines are aged in oak barrels which brings finesse and audacity to this balanced range.
The oldest family trace found dates back to 1652 in Hautvillers and a large majority of our ancestors were either winemakers or coopers. We are proud to count among our ancestors, one of the great figures of Champagne, Gaston POITTEVIN (1880-1944) who worked honorably for champagne and champagne wines.
The project to market champagne under the Cougnet-Weber brand began to germinate in the mind of Sylvie and Philippe in 1999 and the first bottles came on sale in 2005. Since the production continues to increase; nowadays, Sylvie and Philippe market all their production, or 18,000 to 20,000 bottles a year. Their younger daughter, Justine, has plans to take over the family farm in a few years, Continuity is thus ensured.
